Mastering Your Online Brand

By Tara Christianson

Building your personal brand, both offline and online is key to your business. Tara Christianson shares which tools you can use to measure and increase your brand presence online.

Tara Christianson summarised her presentation into four trends:

#1 You need to be able to build trust and loyalty in the online world as well as you do in the offline world.

You can build trust and loyalty online by communicating with impact, tailoring your content for your audience, and by empowering your clients’ choices.

Key Action: Ensure you can speak, listen, and engage, when you interact in the online world for your business.

#2 Communicate with impact.

It’s increasingly important to be able to communicate with impact online.

To do today:

Do an audit on your profiles. Would the average person on the street understand what you’re trying to say?

To take it to the next level:

Plan the words, images and hashtags you want associated with your brand. Use in your research and create a consistent plan (e.g. via a content calendar) to communicate those words and ideas across.

#3 Tailor your content for your audience

Choose the channels that are appropriate for your audience, and “listen” to them using each channel’s insights.

To do today:

Access the insights of the channels you want to be using and decide whether you’re achieving what you want from each platform.

To take it to the next level:

Plan polls (SurveyMonkey, EasyPolls) and surveys (SurveyMonkey & Typeform) to get a better feel for what your audience wants.

#4 Empower your clients' choices.

Analysis paralysis is very real and could be preventing your clients from choosing you. Make it easy for them to choose you by giving them information they want and creating a safe space online for them to ask questions.

 To do today:
Listen to the questions being asked by your clients in voicemails, emails, online, and in person, and answer them for others in the online space.

To take it to the next level:

Create ‘digital campfires’ with Facebook Groups, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or WeChat for private messaging, sharing experiences or to create a micro-communities for your clients.
